Not much to report... We had a wonderful weekend with family and friends. Friday we laid low, Saturday a good friend of mine got married, and Sunday we had small group after church. Brandt just left again. Another week- here we go...
A question for all you mothers out there. When did you start solid foods? Did you mix the rice cereal with baby food or give it separately? Did it cause stomach aches for the little one? What time of day did you introduce solids? How many times a day?
I guess that was more than a question. We tried Addie on solids for one week but then stopped. She was pretty irritated that week- not sure if that was the cause or not. We still put rice cereal in her bottle at night. She won't take that by spoon. She just spits it out. Just wondering if I should mix it with baby food. Just looking for some advice!

We started feeding Gavin rice cereal at 4 months. I just mixed breast milk with it and he seemed to like it. We didn't start solids until 6 months so just a few weeks ago. We usually give him his veggies around dinner time. Only because he goes in his highchair while we eat. We give him the same thing for about a week just to make sure he doesn't have a reaction. If no reaction then he can try a new food. So far we have been lucky with Gavin eating but I think thats becuase he has his mommas appetite, lol! Good luck.

We started Nora with rice cereal around 5 months & then veggies & fruits around 6 months. We had tried cereal before but she wasn't that interested. They suggest that you start with rice cereal & move onto oatmeal & then maybe the mixed grains. Like Amy said in the previous post you should wait 3 days to a week in between introducing a new food - that way if she has a reaction (allergic or tummy ache) you know what food is causing it. In most of my reading about starting solids they suggest starting with orange veggies - carrots, squash, sweet potatos before moving into the greens - peas & beans. They also suggest trying all the veggies before introducing the fruits so they don't just want the sweet tasting fruits. This is the method we used for Nora and it worked really well. She is a fabulous eatter. She eats rice cereal & a fruit in the morning (the 2nd feeding of the day so I don't have to worry about it before I go to work) and oatmeal or mixed grains cereal & a veggie at supper time. We mix the cereal with formula (usually 2 oz) & feed the fruit or veggie (usually 1/2 a container) separtely so she gets a good taste of what she's eatting but by the end of the bowl it's all mixed together. But whatever you guys try Addie will let you know if it's working for her. But, since you were asking, I just wanted to let you know what works for us. Here is a link to a helpful website I use when I am having questions. This link is directly to the articles regarding starting solids - http://www.babycenter.com/0_introducing-solid-foods_113.bc?page=1&articleId=113

Hope you find all of this helpful. Love you and Addie girl!

We gave our daughter rice cereal around 5 months and then started other foods around 6 months. She liked the rice cereal until she got a taste of the other stuff. For plain grain cereal I gave her the baby oatmeal. She really liked that. She usually got that and a fruit for breakfast (plus nursing) Then lunch was a fruit and veggie (plus nursing) and dinner was mostly veggies and maybe more cereal (plus nursing). Around 8 months she started getting stuff to gum - graham crackers, teething cookies, apple cores (she loved to suck on these after we finished an apple - make sure all the seeds are out) Frozen bagel slices - these were great for teething. If you want a really good resource, the Baby Bistro Box has great (easy) and super healthy recipes for kids under a year. It also gives you lots of nutritional facts. Probably the best $30 I spent on "baby stuff". You can't find it in stores, you have to search for it on amazon or just google "Baby Bistro Box"

Hi Stephanie,
You've had some good advice. Just thought I'd add that Heidi does mix a little rice cereal in with Charli's fruits and vegetables. It makes them easier to feed because they aren't so thin. She's a very good eater! It's fun to see your pictures from time to time! JOycelyn
